At our virtual Onsite College and Leadership Forum on October 26, Chicago’s young leaders received more than 750 offers of admission and over $30 million in merit scholarships. Despite the success of Onsite, our Scholars are far from done. Right now, they are busy submitting more college applications and keeping their sights set on their top-choice schools.
One of those Scholars is Darrin Delaney Jr., a senior at Intrinsic Charter School. Darrin was accepted into three colleges at Onsite, and he was awarded scholarships to Knox College and Dominican University. “Before Onsite, things were so uncertain. I didn’t know where I would be accepted or how I’d pay for it,” Darrin says. “Now I know I have at least three schools to choose from.”
Darrin plans to be the first in his family to graduate from college. He is the fifth child in his family and has seven brothers. A few of his older brothers have gone to college, but they haven’t had the right resources to persist and graduate. Now, as he’s finishing his college applications, he knows he can find the school that is the right match and fit for him. “I’m diving deeper into the process of applying to more schools,” Darrin says. “I can compare and contrast to see what the best choice is for me based off of what I bring to the table.”
