Laura Paynter

Biology Teacher (9th)

Ms. Paynter knew she wanted to be a science teacher from when she was five years old. Growing up in Downers Grove, IL she has always loved adventure and discovering the beauty in all living things. She studied Pre-Med, Psychology Science, Creative Writing and Spanish at Loyola University Chicago. After graduating, she went to Memphis to teach K-6 English as a Second Language and received her Masters Degree from the University of Memphis. She loved the music and all the fried food, but wanted a place that mixed the city life with outdoor opportunities. She then moved to Nashville, TN where she was the founding 5th grade Science teacher for LEAD Academy at three of their campuses. She loved the south, but felt a hole in her heart for her family. In 2012 she moved back to Chicago to teach Environmental Science at Pritzker College Prep, a Noble Street Charter school. She loved her students but always wished she could add more technology into the laboratory experiments. Luckily, she found Intrinsic with its motivated and caring staff and full of technology! Outside of school you can find Ms. Paynter taking students camping, hiking, paddle boarding and canoeing. You will often see her curled up with her favorite book or going on long walks with her husband Brett and their dog Lady.
